England Athletics will be hosting regional coach and athlete workshops covering all of the sprints and hurdles events (100m – 400m, sprint and long hurdles).

The workshop format will be a 1.5hr theory based session on managing athletes in a training environment and a 1.5hr practical session putting theory into practice. The practical session will have an event specialist to identify key principles in order to add value and context to your coaching.

Each coach that books onto the workshop can bring one athlete, unfortunately this will be limited to the first 10 coaches on a first come first serve basis to make sure we can deliver a valuable learning experience to all the coaches. We will contact the first 10 coaches per event group to confirm they can bring an athlete.

Who will deliver: The session will be delivered by our England Athletics regional coach leads with support from national level coaches in the region

who can attend

These workshops are pitched at coaching assistant and athletics coach level (old level 1 and 2)

Graham Pilkington

Graham is a Level 4 Performance Speed Coach based at Litherland Sports Park, Merseyside and have over 21 years experience as a coach. As well as coaching my own Squad I undertake a variety of roles for British and England Athletics. These include International Coach and Team Management, AASE Programme Athlete Mentoring and the Delivery of Movement Skill and Event Integration Days for England Athletics.

Graham has been part of the National Coach Development Programme since its inception, which has provided me with an excellent platform to develop my coaching knowledge and skills and allowed me to work alongside and learn from some of the top international Speed and Strength and Conditioning Coaches. This led to me attending the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with England Athletics on their Coach and Team Management Development Programme.

Graham has coached for many years at a National Level on the British Athletics Disability programme and believe passionately about the integration of disability and abled bodied athletes for them to receive the best in their coaching. During my time coaching I have worked with a large range of disability athletes and believe that this has helped to challenge my understanding of stability, movement and speed and has helped in my development as a speed coach

The course will run from 10am - 2pm
